[ About Two Kinds of Stranger ]
SHE HELPED A PERFECT A STRANGER. SHE DIDN’T KNOW HE WAS THE PERFECT KILLER…
Elly Parker had everything.
Perfect husband. Perfect apartment. Perfect friends and the perfect job.
As an internet celebrity – famed for her random acts of kindness – everyone knew it.
So when a betrayal causes her to lose it all, millions of people are watching.
But even at her lowest, Elly will always help someone in need.
Which makes her the perfect target for a sadistic game.
Because as she soon learns, you can never trust a stranger – and a seemingly random encounter plunges her into a nightmare worse than she ever imagined.
The only person she can turn to is conman turned trial lawyer Eddie Flynn, who must take on a case where nothing is what it seems. With the most cruelly ingenious mind manipulating events from the shadows, everyone is in danger – including Eddie and his family.
[ My Review ]
Two Kinds of Stranger by Steve Cavanagh published July 31st with Headline and is Book 9 in the ‘gripping and twisty’ Eddie Flynn series.
Hold onto your hats folks and prepare to be taken on an adrenaline fuelled, high-stakes and bumpy ride! This is the story of a social media influencer whose life imploded live on camera but what followed was even worse. Ellie Parker, recently married, was a celebrity, beloved for her #randomactofkindness, which she posted via her channels on a regular basis. Aware of her own position, and accumulating wealth, she was happy to give something back to society, by way of donations, to worthwhile causes or simply lending a hand where necessary. These moments were always posted by Ellie online across her social channels and the feedback was predominantly positive. Unfortunately for Ellie, as she is doing a live recording, her viewers get to see much more than they anticipated.
Ellie is shattered, recoiling from everything and everyone. But even Ellie has to step out into the world at some point and, without even thinking twice, she performs a #RandomActOfKindness for a stranger. What follows next is the stuff of nightmares as Ellie finds herself in the depths of despair. As a young woman, the trajectory of her initial downfall was an enormous obstacle to overcome but now her life is in freefall and Ellie is in serious trouble.
Eddie Flynn, and his team, receive a call that Ellie Parker is looking for their services. As he launches his investigation, he soon realises that there is something quite malevolent at play, and Ellie is a mere toy in some dark and twisted game. The manipulation and mastery of an extremely smart, yet cold, individual soon become his nemesis but who can win this treacherous game of cat-and-mouse.
When Eddie’s life, and that of his team and family, are threatened he knows that the odds of success are slipping away but Eddie Flynn is relentless in his quest for justice. Unafraid to use alternative methods, he begins to slowly gain some traction but will it be too late?
Who doesn’t love a page-turner that rips along at speed and builds tension and nerve-shattering moments with aplomb? Eddie Flynn skirts on the edge of the legal system and it is this edge that allows him to be more bold with some of his actions. He is very clever with plenty of street smarts but he is exposed when things get personal. His flaws and more vulnerable traits add to his personality creating the perfect protagonist for this series. With a very relevant social media theme running through the plot, this really is a standout and relatable novel. Sharp, witty, engaging and extremely entertaining Two Kinds of Stranger is top-tier crime fiction and is sure to be another hit for all Steve Cavanagh fans, both new and old.
